Small Business Website Design in Tampa
You run a taqueria on Waters Ave, a barbershop in Brandon, or a pet groomer in Carrollwood. People already search for you on Google. The question is what they find when they tap your website link.
SoftSqueek builds fast, simple websites for Tampa Bay small businesses. This page covers what a small business site actually needs, the mistakes we see most around Tampa, and how to get started without a big upfront project.
What customers want from your website in the first five seconds
Almost every visitor to a local business website wants one of a few things. Put these at the top of your homepage, readable on a phone without zooming:
- What you do and where. "Mexican restaurant in Seminole Heights" beats a slogan.
- Hours, including holiday changes. Wrong hours lead to wasted trips and bad reviews.
- A tap-to-call phone number and a map link. Most local searches happen on phones.
- The main action. Order online, book an appointment, request a quote or see the menu. Pick one primary button.
- Proof. Real photos of your food, shop or work, plus a few of your actual Google reviews.
If a stranger can answer "what, where, when, how do I contact them" in five seconds, the homepage is doing its job.
Common problems we see with Tampa small business websites
We look at a lot of local businesses across Tampa, Brandon, Clearwater and St. Pete. The same issues come up again and again:
The "website" is a Facebook page
Many great local spots with hundreds of reviews link their Google listing to Facebook. Visitors without Facebook get login prompts, and your hours and menu get buried under old posts. We wrote more on this in Is a Facebook page enough for a small business?
The link only goes to an ordering app
Toast, Square, Clover and DoorDash ordering pages are useful, but they are not a website. They do not tell your story, rank well for "best Cuban sandwich in Tampa," or let customers find catering info. Keep the ordering link, and put a real site in front of it.
An expired domain or parked page
Some businesses once had a site, then the domain or builder plan lapsed. Now Google sends people to an error or a parked page full of ads. That costs trust fast. Check your own link from your phone today.
A PDF menu or price list
PDFs are slow and hard to read on phones, and search engines read them poorly. Put menus and service lists on the page as real text.
What a good small business site includes
A small business website does not need to be big. For most Tampa restaurants, salons, trades and shops, three to five pages cover everything:
- Home: the five-second essentials above, plus your main button.
- Menu or services: real text, with prices if you are comfortable sharing them.
- About: who you are and why people come back. Owners' stories matter locally.
- Contact / location: address, map, parking notes, phone, and a simple form.
- Optional: catering, events, gallery, careers or FAQs if customers ask about them often.
Behind the scenes, the site should load quickly on mobile, use your own domain (not a free builder subdomain), and have basic local SEO in place: a clear page title with your city, your name, address and phone written the same way everywhere, and a link back from your Google Business Profile.
For examples, see sites we built for Z Cafe and Hideaways by the Vault. If you run a restaurant, our restaurant website design page goes deeper on menus, ordering and reservations.

Quick checklist before you hire anyone
- Google your business name on your phone. Where does the website link go?
- Do you own your domain name, and is it in your name?
- Can a customer find your hours and phone number without scrolling?
- Is your menu or service list real text, or a photo or PDF?
- Is there one clear button for the thing you most want customers to do?
If you answered "not sure" to two or more, a simple site will likely help more than another social post.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to build a small business website?
Most one-to-five page small business sites take about two to four weeks. The biggest factor is how fast we get your photos, menu or service list, and answers to a few questions. We start with a free homepage mockup so you can see the direction before committing.
Do I still need a website if I have a Facebook page and a Google listing?
Yes. A Google listing gets you found, but the website link on that listing is where people go to check your menu, services, prices and hours. If that link goes to Facebook, some visitors hit a login wall and you have no control over what they see first. Your own site fixes that.
Can I update the website myself after it launches?
You can, or you can send us changes and we make them. Many owners prefer to text or email a new menu price or holiday hours and have it handled. Either way, you own your domain and your content.
